Geological Chronicle

Located on the Moon's far side northeast of Konstantinov and southwest of Trumpler, Tikhomirov spans 86.43 kilometers in diameter. Farther to the west-northwest lies Mare Moscoviense, one of the few maria on the far side of the Moon.

Heavily eroded by subsequent impacts, little distinguishes the crater from the nearby terrain beyond a slight surface depression and traces of the outer rim.

The crater is named after Nikolai Ivanovich Tikhomirov, a Soviet chemical engineer and pioneer in rocket technology.
