Geological Chronicle

Slater is an impact crater near the south pole of the Moon, spanning a diameter of 25.12 kilometers within the Amundsen quadrangle. Like nearby Shackleton, the floor of the crater rests in nearly perpetual darkness.

The International Astronomical Union adopted the crater's name in May 2015, commemorating the American planetary scientist David Charles Slater, a specialist in optics and detectors.
