Sinus Asperitatis, translating from Latin as the Bay of Roughness, is an area of lunar mare extending southward from Mare Tranquillitatis until it joins Mare Nectaris to the southeast. Bordered along its western and eastern sides by continental regions of irregular terrain, the bay has a diameter of 219.14 kilometers.
The small crater Torricelli is situated in the northern part of the bay, while the prominent crater pair of Theophilus and Cyrillus lies at its southern end. Positioned on the border between Sinus Asperitatis and Mare Nectaris is the crater Mädler.
