Shayn is an eroded impact crater located on the Moon's far side, positioned north of Freundlich and northeast of Trumpler. Spanning 92.9 kilometers in diameter, the feature is named for Soviet astrophysicist Grigorii Abramovich Shayn.
Subsequent minor impacts have worn the formation, rounding most of the rim and eroding its original sharp edges. Along the southern inner wall, the crater still displays a slumped, shelf-like structure, while a pair of small impacts lies along the inner wall in the northeast.
The interior floor is pitted with small and tiny craterlets, the most notable of which is a small crater northwest of the midpoint. Beyond the rim, the crater Nušl lies to the west, while Champollion is situated to the north-northeast.
