Located less than one crater diameter to the north of Tycho in the southern part of the Moon, Sasserides is the remnant of an 81.74-kilometer-wide impact crater. Named for Danish astronomer Gellio Sasceride, the formation lies west of Orontius and south of Ball.
Impacts have so battered the structure that it is scarcely recognizable as a crater, leaving only a short section of rim intact along its southwest side. Overlaid impacts of various dimensions have modified or erased the remainder of the rim.
An arc of craters along the northern rim includes Sasserides P, G, and C, with Sasserides C featuring a low central peak at its midpoint. The interior floor is somewhat more even than the surrounding rim, though a short chain of worn craters occupies its eastern half.
