Geological Chronicle
Rozhdestvenskiy is a large lunar impact crater on the far side of the Moon, situated within one crater diameter of the north pole. Spanning 181.15 kilometers across, it is flanked by Hermite along its eastern rim and Plaskett along its west-southwestern rim, while Peary lies directly on the opposite side of the pole.
The crater takes the form of a walled plain with a heavily eroded, rugged outer rim and a somewhat polygonal outline. The relatively young crater Rozhdestvenskiy K overlies the southern rim, and a short chain of craters to the northwest forms a valley penetrating the rim.
The crater's interior floor is relatively level, marked by a central peak formation west of the midpoint. A pair of small craters sits just west of this peak, an additional small crater lies south of the midpoint, and the floor is marked by many tiny craterlets. The feature is named for Soviet physicist Dmitriy Sergeevich Rozhdestvenskiy.
