Poinsot is a worn lunar impact crater that is located at the northern part of the Moon on the far side. The formation spans an official diameter of 65.11 kilometers.

It lies to the south of the walled plain named Rozhdestvenskiy. It is recorded in the IAU Gazetteer under quadrangle LAC-8.
