Geological Chronicle

Situated near the Moon's northern limb on the western side of the pole, Pascal spans 108.2 kilometers in diameter. Because of its location near the limb, its visibility from Earth is affected by lunar libration. The formation lies north of the eroded crater Desargues and just east of Brianchon, and can be located by following the lunar surface northwest from Carpenter toward the limb.

Impact erosion has softened and rounded Pascal's relief, leaving a recognizable perimeter whose interior terraces have been largely worn away. Several craters interrupt the outer rim, including the sharp-edged Pascal F on the northwest, the more worn Pascal A on the southwest, and the small, bowl-shaped Pascal G along the southeast.

Within wide inner walls, the crater contains a nearly level floor that was resurfaced by lava. A low ridge stands at the midpoint to form a minor central peak, accompanied by tiny craters at the northern end of the floor and at the northeast end of the central ridge. To the north, surface grooves crossing the satellite crater Poncelet C extend tangentially across Pascal's northeastern rim.
