Geological Chronicle

Located east of Mare Fecunditatis and astride the northeast rim of Langrenus, the crater Lamé spans 84.28 kilometers across the lunar surface. Its perimeter rises only slightly above the surrounding ground, though it develops a notable rampart where the rim intersects Vendelinus. Across the center of the crater floor, a slight ridge forms a central peak.

The eastern boundary of the crater is overlaid by a series of overlapping craters that form an intermittent chain extending nearly 100 kilometers to the south. Designated Vendelinus C on earlier lunar charts and labeled Smith on some older maps, the landmark was renamed by the International Astronomical Union in honor of the French mathematician Gabriel Lamé.
