Geological Chronicle
Situated across the southeastern edge of Mare Moscoviense on the northern hemisphere of the lunar far side, Komarov is an irregular impact feature measuring 80.43 kilometers in diameter. Its northern rim bulges outward into the mare, giving the crater a distinct pear shape.
Lava flows resurfaced the floor and completely submerged the western third of the crater's interior. Along the northwestern rim, an outer rampart slopes down to the plain of the neighboring mare, while the regions around the northeastern and southern rims remain rugged and uneven.
The crater floor is scored by multiple rilles oriented primarily north to south and cracked like a drying mud bed, with a cleft-like formation curving along the inner eastern rim. The feature honors Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov.
