Geological Chronicle
Kekulé is an impact crater measuring 94.22 kilometers in diameter on the far side of the Moon. Located west-southwest of the larger crater Poynting, it sits on the edge of the ejecta skirt surrounding the walled plain called Hertzsprung to the southeast.
The outer rim remains largely intact despite degradation from impact erosion. The perimeter is roughly circular, with the greatest wear along the northeast rim, where a small crater lies along the rim edge.
The interior floor is relatively level with no central peak, though irregularities mark the surface in the northeastern half and along the southern edge. Numerous tiny craterlets pit the interior, and a pair of small craterlets lies along the northern inner wall.
