Geological Chronicle

Hedin is a lunar impact crater of the dimension traditionally termed a walled plain. It lies due south of the crater pair Olbers and Glushko, northwest of the similarly dimensioned walled plain Riccioli, and west of Hevelius.

The crater's outer rim has deteriorated after being worn down and reshaped through impact erosion. Several small craters lie along or near the rim, including Hedin F to the northeast and Hedin H to the southeast.

The interior floor was scored by the impact event that created Mare Orientale to the southeast. A pair of linear rilles cross-hatches these features on a path toward the southeast, leaving only a section along the northwest rim relatively level with the low albedo of lava-resurfaced ground.
