Geological Chronicle

Freundlich is a lunar impact crater located on the far side of the Moon within the Freundlich-Sharonov Basin. It lies midway between the craters Trumpler to the north-northwest and the irregular Buys-Ballot to the south-southeast.

This formation dates to the Imbrian period on the lunar geologic timescale. It features a circular rim that is more heavily eroded at its northern and southern ends.

Groups of craters lie across the floor to the north and southeast, with individual small craters situated elsewhere within the interior. In 1970, the crater was named after Erwin Freundlich by the IAU.
